If you want to experience a competitive rugby tour in a new destination then our rugby tours to Italy and rugby training camps in Lecco are ideal for your team tour in 2008. We can organise rugby training camps and rugby tours for teams of all ages, abilities and budgets with prices starting at only £189 plus flights for a 3 night rugby tour to Lecco.

About Lecco and Lake Como

Lecco is a beautiful city that is situated at the foot of Lake Como in Lombardy, approximately 50km north of the Cosmopolitan City of Milan. Lecco town centre is set in the idyllic backdrop of the crystal blue lake and towering mountains. Lake Como offers a host of sporting and social activities for rugby teams of all ages and budgets. Buying an all-day-ticket for the lake ferries is a great experience so you can really explore Lake Como. Recommended towns to see are Varenna and Menaggio. Both untouched by tourism, the back streets, restaurants and views are a quintessential characteristic of the area.

Varenna is like a mini-Venice with pavements. The multi coloured buildings are beautifully intertwined with narrow olive-tree-canopied walkways. At Colico, the northernmost town on the lake, there is a purpose built activity centre designed with serious fun in mind. Mountain biking, canoeing, windsurfing and kitesurfing are available here.

On the northwest side of the lake at Dongo, speedboat hire is availableif you want a phenomenal James Bond experience whizzing across the lake. Once you’ve had your fill of the lake, why not take a trip south to Milan. The 1 hour train from Lecco which takes you to the Central Station in Milan, an impressive building in itself. It was built under the command of Mussolini to reflect Italy’s greatness. From here you can get the underground metro to Duomo.

A spot of browsing near the Cathedral and in the Galleria Vittorio Emmanuelle II is recommended. The crucifix shaped building is home to Louis Vuitton, Gucci and Prada amongst others. Then, check out the Restaurants in the cosmopolitan centre of Milan in Montenapoleone. After an hour or two perusing the numerous street cafe's and bars, take the Red Line on the underground to the Stadio Meazza for a Stadium tour or an Inter or AC Milan Football Match in San Siro. Tickets for matches are readily available and at a fraction of the cost of an English Premiership match.

The Rugby in Italy

The rugby in the area is growing rapidly. As the national side continue to improve in international tournaments, more and more people take the game up with a passion that is sadly disappearing in the UK. Fixtures against all levels from Level 3 down will be easily found, as clubs are desperate to welcome rugby friends and increase their playing abilities. The Club at Lecco is a typical example, with enthusiastic youngsters turning up in droves on a Saturday afternoon for mini's training and the seniors passionately training three-times a week which does far more than justify their amateur Serie C profile.

The pitch and training facilities at Rugby Lecco rival any outside of top-flight rugby in England. These are available as a training venue for touring teams. As well as the pitch, a basic gymnasium with weights benches and squat racks and a 400m running track are available.

Rugby Lecco is more than keen to welcome international visitors. The Prima Squadra (First Team) is ardent about training alongside and play against any touring squad staying in Lecco. This is a great opportunity for both parties to experience a totally different rugby culture at first hand. At Rugby Lecco, they only run one senior side. However, this 100% amateur club has 40+ men training every session three nights a week. Their commitment and passion for the sport makes future improvement probable rather than possible.

Rugby Tour Accommodation

Tours 4 Sport have developed an exclusive relationship with a 3* Hotel built on the banks of Lake Como in the San Martino Valley. The Ristorante Hotel Nouvo is an excellent hotel located next door to a fitness centre. The hotel, shadowed by Monte Resegone is very proud of their facilities “The excellent cuisine and the particular atmosphere - beside all possible comforts - will make your stay in the Hotel-Restaurant an unforgettable experience.” The charming position of the hotel is a great starter point for an exploration of the local area.

The Prato Grande Fitness centre is fully equipped with an indoor and outdoor swimming pool, modern gymnasium, tennis courts and a 5-a-side football pitch. The gym is a bit on the small side, but is great for cardiovascular work outs. The gym at the Rugby ground fits well with this as it is equipped with weights benches. The fitness centre is the centre of choice for AS Calcio Lecco – the local soccer side who play in the Italian equivalent of League One. Lecco city centre is a ten minute bus ride, passing by the Sport centre at Bione itself in approximately five minutes.

While in Italy, be sure to sample as much of La Dolce Vita as possible. The Food, the Wine, the Ice Creams and the unbelievably relaxed attitude the locals have for life, is something you will remember for a very long time.
