Sports Tours to Lille
Lille is a city that describes itself as having a surprise around every corner. Situated in the north of France, not too far away from the border with Belgium, Lille is only an hour’s drive south of the ferry port at Calais. Rugby in the north of France is overshadowed by football; however, Lille is probably second to Paris as the hotbed of the sport in the region. Lille is centred around the beautiful main square, or the Grand’Place to give it its French name. This is the meeting place for the locals and proves to be an impressive centrepiece to the city. Lille is a beautiful city with many great photo opportunities.
The stereotypical French characteristics are all on show here; great food, beautiful architecture, laid back culture and of course plenty Joie de Vivre! The Town is a real melting pot of French history, because of it’s location near the Belgian lowlands, it is not surprising that French and other European forces have demanded ownership over the centuries. Since being founded in the 1500’s, Lille has had Flemish, Burgundian and Spanish as well as French influence. Each period has left its unique mark on the city. The seductive Old Town or Le Vieux-Lille, is the most charming of districts.
As you wander the streets and squares, you will discover the history, the patrimony and the typically French “Art of Living.” Sites of the old town include the Palais Rihour, the Grand’Place, the Vieille Bourse, the Opera, the Comtesse Museum and the Notre Dame de la Treille Cathedral. There are a host of activities you can undertake in your ‘off-time’ while on tour in Lille. We recommend that you keep the bus driver on his toes and make the most of the unlimited legal driving time. Paintballing, Gokarting, 10-Pin Bowling, Tree Climbing, Kayaking, Canoeing or Laser Quest. For the more educational and cultural of groups, why not head to the World War 2 museum that pays tribute to the French Resistance. Ask your tour manager for more information.
