Tours 4 Sport is the sports division of Halsbury Travel, a reputable tour operator that has been organising school group tours for over 30 years. We are fully committed to the health and safety of all groups travelling with us, regardless of their age, as demonstrated by Halsbury Travel’s membership of the School Travel Forum (STF); a group of leading school tour operators which aims to promote good practice and safety in school travel. As with all full members, we adhere to a rigorous code of practice and safety management protocols, which are externally verified on an annual basis by Argent, the UK’s leading travel health and safety consultancy.
Our experience in the field of travel health and safety translates to our adult sports tours also. For us, it is important that all our groups remain safe whilst they are on one of our tours!
The accommodation that we arrange for you will comply with local legislation regarding fire and general safety and will have been contracted by fully-trained member of our staff or reputable agents. Prior to use by our groups, the accommodation will have received a standard audit and risk assessment. The accommodation will also receive a supplementary audit if it is used 5 times or more by our groups in one year. This way, you can be sure that you will be accommodated in safe and suitable surroundings.
We are also extremely careful about the transport that we arrange for our groups. Most of our tours include travel by coach, ferry/Eurotunnel or air.
Halsbury Travel actually holds a licence from the Civil Aviation Authority, which permits our company to operate group and individual tours by air (ATOL 5079). The Civil Aviation Authority actually regulates all air transport from the UK and operates to very strict safety criteria.
All British coach travel is regulated by the Department for Transport. Operator Licences are granted only to national or international operations that satisfy the requirements of professional competence. Vehicles must, of course, be correctly maintained. When it comes to selecting our coach suppliers, we only work with reputable coach companies, all of which are subject to a standard audit before we start working with them. When working with foreign coach companies, we ensure that they conform to all local, national and international standards.
Both the Eurotunnel and ferries are nationally regulated. In addition to this, our Travel Managers meet with all companies used on a regular basis. During these meetings, on-board safety and security is discussed.
As part of our work with the STF, and as part of our continuing commitment to health and safety, we have developed and implemented a Safety Management System (SMS)
To ensure your group’s health and safety, we are committed to the following:
• Promoting and facilitating a positive health and safety culture
• Assessing all risks associated with activities and maintaining appropriate control measures
• Providing safe transport and accommodation
• Providing adequate financial and human resources to implement our health and safety policy
• Ensuring all staff are able to implement SMS
• Maintaining effective communications with clients
• Regularly reviewing and updating SMS where and when appropriate
Whilst we endeavour to ensure that your trip is as safe as possible, we do advise that tourists employ common sense when away from home. This includes not walking unaccompanied at night and not flashing cash or valuables. Whilst we understand that for many university and adult sports tours, the nightlife is an important part of the trip, we strongly advise that all tourists drink responsibly, for their own safety.
We would also strongly recommend that you take out suitable sports travel insurance. If you already have a policy in place, please check with your insurance company that you are fully covered for all that you intend to do on your tour. We are also able to arrange sports travel insurance for you, please just contact us for details.
